You cannot create a great superhero movie just with a great hero, you need a great villain too. The life of a Superhero is a cycle, which cannot be completed without a great Supervillain, an obstacle creator who creates problems in the life of the hero, and teaches him the values required to be a superhero. There are many great supervillains in the comics of Marvel and DC, who have entertained us equally as the heroes did. Thanos, Loki, Lex Luthor, Bane, Darkseid are just some names to mention.
But, apart from all these typical supervillains, there is a character who manages to stand out of the crowd. He is ‘Joker’, a supervillain vigilante from the DC comics who first appeared in the comics as a thug, but at present day he stands out as the most liked villain of the entire world. What is in Joker that makes everybody tend to like him. Let’s discover in this post.

Joker
If you take a close look at the character arc of the Joker, then you will find that Joker is not like any other supervillain that we generally see in the comics and the movies, he is different. There is some element inside him that attracts us toward him. Even when we watch Joker against batman, people generally tend to like him more than Batman. What is there inside him that makes people support an evil and hate a hero?
I have found three points which explains us that why Joker is loved so much by the public, even if he doesn’t have any great powers and abilities.
1) No Motivation
Most of the supervillains we see in the comics or the movies are driven by their motivation. Thanos wanted to save the universe by eliminating half of the population, Loki wanted to prove himself worthy for the throne of Asgard and Talia wanted revenge for her father’s death. Not only in the movies, but this is the same case in real life too. The criminals we see in the newspapers are driven by some motivation too.
But on the other hand, we have Joker, who has no motivation or intention behind doing anything. He just enjoys doing things. At one moment he will be standing beside you calmly, and the other moment he would stab you with a knife, just because it is fun for him. In the Dark Knight movie, Joker collects all the money of Gotham and burnt them, like it doesn’t have any value for him.
We tend to like Joker for this quality because somewhere inside our heart we wish that may we become like him one day, away from the stress of the world, doing whatever we wish to do.

2) Clueless Strategist
See, Joker may not have any motivation behind doing things, but do not mistake it with being a jerk. We perceive that the actions of Joker are always unintentional and unplanned, but this is not the case. Even if he doesn’t know what to do, but the definitely knows how to do.
Again referring back to the Dark Knight movie, we saw in the initial scenes of the movie that Joker was robbing a bank with some of his mates. Now we know that the Joker has no interest in the money, but he definitely knew how to steal it from the bank. He planned everything so well that his plan was destined to be successful.
We tend to like this quality of Joker because in real life we are just opposite of him. We always know what to do, but most of the time we don’t know how to do. We should be clear on how to do a thing before picking it up and placing in out To-Do list.

3) Childish Nature
I know that you have already figured out what I am going to say in this point, and yes you are right. The most unique thing about Joker is his mind, which is unpredictable. No one can say what is going on inside his mind, not even the greatest detective Batman. This may be a disability of Joker, but he uses it for his advantage. He is unpredictable. No matter how much you try to figure out his next move, he will always surprise you.
In the Dark Knight movie, when Joker went to the hospital to meet Dent, he said the dialogue; “I am not a guy with a plan, I’m just a dog chasing cars. I just do things”. If you rethink about this statement then you will find that this is the root, the mantra for a stress free life. Many times we get so stressed up because we keep a lot of expectations from everyone around us.
On the other hand, Joker never expects anything from anyone. He does whatever he wants to do without seeking any external help. That is why we tend to like him much more than we like ourselves.
