Odin vs Thanos

Before starting the post, I know many of you would be doubting if Odin’s even strong enough to defeat Thanos? For clearing all your doubts, let us first analyze on the fact that was Odin even strong enough to beat Thanos, and after that we will discover the reasons why Odin didn’t kill Thanos before he had acquired the Infinity Stones.

Thor’s father Odin is considered as one of the most powerful characters of the Marvel universe. This is because of a lot of perks which he had. He was the king of Asgard, he had a battle ready army of gods, he had many deadly weapons in his inventory (like Destroyer), he had a skillful son, and most importantly he had the Odin Force, which is counted among the major forces of the Marvel universe.

Now if we talk about Thanos, then before acquiring the stones, what he had was only an army full of mindless creatures and he himself. Now, we know that this is more than enough for making Thanos one of the most fearful characters of the universe, as we have seen the same in Endgame too. But, if compare this with what Odin had in his peak years, then it is crystal clear that Odin would have defeated Thanos much earlier than Infinity war, not easily but definitely.

Now that we have cleared that why Odin was able to kill Thanos much before the events of Infinity war, let’s now discuss the reasons why Odin didn’t kill him beforehand. There are two major reasons due to which Odin didn’t kill Thanos, which are listed below.

1) Threat to Asgard

Yes it’s true that Odin had a lot of special perks to aid him during a war, but with all the perks he also had a duty towards his throne. As he was the King of Asgard, hence his first duty was to protect Asgard and its ally kingdoms from external threats which tries to attack them.

On the other hand, Thanos was never a direct threat to Asgard. He definitely had his eyes on Asgard, as it had connection with two Infinity Stones (Space and Reality), but until Odin was alive, Thanos never tried to attack Asgard or any of its ally kingdom.

Instead, Thanos was on his own mission of slaughtering half population of the planets which weren’t under the protection of Asgard.

2) Thanos’ Strategy

Thanos was a Titan, as well as an Eternal too. This is why he had a very developed and smart brain as compared to many other creatures of the universe. Thanos had a clear strategy from the very beginning of the Infinity Saga. Thanos knew that there are some creatures in the universe who may be a threat for him in future, like Ego, Ancient one and especially, Odin.

Due to this, Thanos was sending his pawns like Loki, Gamora and Ronan to do the work of acquiring the stones for him while he remained behind the scene.

But as years passed and his pawns failed in doing their job, that’s when Thanos decided to do the job himself. As a bonus, all the characters who were previously a threat for him were dead by now and hence Thanos’ strategy worked perfectly, and we got Infinity war.
