One of the most jaw dropping and breath stopping moments from Marvel’s masterpiece movie Avengers Endgame was the scene where Captain America lifts Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, which was enchanted only to let the worthy ones lift it. It was not like the first time when we saw characters other than Thor lifting his hammer. We’ve already seen Vision and Hela lifting the hammer too, then what was so special and doubtful about Captain America lifting it? Let’s discuss in today’s post.

Captain is Worthy?
Captain America picking up Mjolnir in Avengers Endgame was so special because Captain was just a human, and no other human was able to move the hammer from its place before Cap did. Vision picked it up because he was an android, and Hela did the same because she was a goddess as well as the former owner of the hammer. But if we talk about Captain, then he was just a human. So let’s discuss the reason why Captain America is worthy, and additionally we will discuss two opposite theories about when did Captain become worthy.
Why is he worthy?
If you take a closer look at the life of Steve Rogers from the very beginning of ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ movie till the end of ‘Avengers Endgame’, then you’ll find that Captain America is not like any superhero. Unlike the other heroes, Steve didn’t become Captain America by chance. Steve always wanted to serve his country no matter what, and his dedication led him to being selected for the Super Soldier program. On the other hand, other superheroes like Iron man, Hulk and Thor had to pass through bad events until they realized what they actually need to do.
The second factor that makes Steve worthy is that he never changes his side. He always stands for truth and justice, no matter who is alongside him and who is against him. Also, Steve never lies about anything, except for Stark’s parents’ death (we’ll come to it in the theory below). Speaking truth and standing for the right is an ability that very few people actually have in the real world.
The final reason according to me that adds up to make Captain America worthy of wielding Mjolnir is that his mind is innocent. He doesn’t want to harm anybody, he doesn’t know the game of politics, instead what he wants is how to complete the task assigned to him and serve humanity.
So these were the reasons why Steve may be worthy of wielding Thor’s hammer in Endgame. Now let’s take a look at two contrasting theories about when did Steve become worthy of the hammer.

Theory- 1
According to our first theory, Captain America was always worthy of wielding Mjolnir. In the scene from ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ where everyone was trying to move the hammer, Steve just faked about not being able to move it so that the sentiments and dignity of Thor wouldn’t be hurt.
Not only Steve maintained the respect of his friend, but he also degraded his own respect in front of others because of this. This again symbolizes how much of a decent guy Steve was, and ultimately this is also a reason why he’s worthy of the hammer.
Theory- 2
According to this theory, Captain America was genuinely not worthy in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, and he actually wasn’t able to lift Mjolnir from the table. This is because of the one wrong deed he had done throughout his life, and this was about not telling Tony that Bucky is the one who has killed his parents. Captain America already knew this fact but instead he decided to hide it from Tony because he thought this would upset him more.
But again, in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ movie Steve revealed this secret to Tony and finally got released from the one burden he had on his shoulders. This was the time when Captain America turned worthy for Mjolnir.
