If you have been a fan of the animated superheroes universe then the chances are low that you have never heard of ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’. This animated series was counted as one of the best if not the best animated series of Marvel, alongside Spiderman: The animated series and X-Men series. This series made its debut in the television on September 22, 2010. Although it was very famous, but still this series vanished very soon after just two seasons on 5th May, 2013. Further it was also replaced by the Avengers Assemble series which is still featuring on Disney XD network. This incident raises a question that why did Marvel decide to end a series that was extremely loved by fans after just two seasons? Let’s find out the answer for this question. Keep reading and check yourself what was the actual reason behind this.

Avengers: EMH Discontinued

There is no doubt that this series was one of the best series of all time, which featured almost everything that the fans have ever imagined since then. For those fans who don’t know what the heck is being discussed here, let me brief you once. This series was something where we got to see the cameos of other legendary superheroes like Spiderman, Wolverine, Guardians of the Galaxy, Fantastic Four, etc in a single series. This series also helped some cool superheroes like Hawkeye and Wasp to get out of the shadows and become fan favourite.

Also, this series involved some cool spots like releasing Captain America from ice, the Secret Invasion and War of Realms events from the comics, Avengers fighting against Galactus, and formation of the New Avengers team. This series involved almost every major event from the comics. So, if this series was such cool then why does it get cancelled? …or we can say replaced?

1) Clash between MAU and MCU

See, the first reason why this series was cancelled is ‘Loss’. Although this series was fan favourite, but this was not the same in other aspects like selling of merchandise and getting good returns in advertising. These kinda stuff happened mainly because of the clash between the Marvel’s animated universe and Marvel’s cinematic universe. Let’s elaborate it. So, if you try to remember than you will find that the first Avengers movie of Marvel cinematic universe was released in 2012.

This was one of the most historic moments for the long term Marvel fans, where we got to see our favourite characters together for the first time in real life adaptations. Now, with the release of the movie, other stuffs like toys and clothes related to this movie also came out in the market. These newly entered and remodelled merchandise started clashing with the already ruling Avengers Earth’s Mightiest Heroes merchandise which ultimately resulted in an overall loss for the company itself.

2) Unknown Characters

The second reason why Marvel and Disney decided to pull off the animated series is because, the Avengers team which was featured in this animated series consisted of characters like Ant-man, Wasp and Black Panther, who were not featured in the MCU movies since then. So, when the fans who watched the Avengers team for the first time in their life through MCU’s Avengers movie, those fans didn’t like the animated series that much, as some of the characters of the series were unknown to the new fans of Marvel. This ultimately resulted in a huge downfall in the ratings of the animated series, and ultimately Marvel and Disney had no other option than pulling it off and releasing a new show which would feature the same characters as they were in the movie. Hence, Marvel’s Avengers Assemble series was started which featured the same Avengers as they were in the movie with the similar outfits too.

We have also seen many more such adaptations and changes that were being made to the already existing animated series characters to make them look more like to their movies counterpart. Some of the examples of these are discontinuing the ‘Spectacular Spiderman’ series and launching the ‘Ultimate Spiderman’ series and also discontinuing ‘Hulk’ animated series and coming up with ‘Hulk and the Agents of Smash’ series.

In both the cases, the original fan favourite shows were replaced just because their characters didn’t resemble to their movies counterparts.

3) Lack of Instant storyline

This reason may not be one of the most important reason behind the cancellation of the animated series, but still this point plays its essential role here. When the storyline of the season 2 ended, at that time the creators were under constant pressure because of the above mentioned factors. Due to its constantly decreasing rating, the creators wanted the season 3 to be released as soon as possible, which they were expecting will boost the ratings. But the writers and the animators declined to do that as it was not an easy task to animate the whole series in such a short period of time.

Later reports also revealed that if the time duration between season 2 and season 3 would have been sufficient, then we fans may have got to see some cool storylines like Avengers vs X-men and the Civil war storyline. We were also supposed to be introduced to the new generation superheroes like Miles Morales and Kamala Khan. A third season may have been a BOOM, but unfortunately this is never gonna happen again.

So these were all the reasons behind the extinction of our favourite show ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ from our lives. Did you like the show?, and do you want it to come up again? Do let us know in the comments below.
