Star Sapphires

The Star Sapphires are basically an organisation which previously consisted of ladies only. If you peek into the ancient DC comics, then you will find that originally Star Sapphires were introduced as villains in DC. But on the later stories it was revealed that the Star Sapphires are actually a race of creatures also known as the Zamarons, whose task is to find a female creature of the entire cosmos who have humanoid physiology, so that she can be their queen. According to the Zamaron rituals, any female who is selected to be the queen cannot deny it any cost, but the conditions for being selected as a queen is that the female must have felt true love and rejection atleast once throughout her lifetime.

After a female is selected for becoming a Star Sapphire, she almost gets similar powers as that of Green lanterns. Now since we have started discussing about the Star Sapphires, then it is not possible to neglect Carol Ferris. So according to the Green Lantern comics of 2007, Carol Ferris who is Hal Jordan’s ex-girlfriend got selected for becoming a Star Sapphire as she fulfills every condition for becoming a Star Sapphire, and then the story starts.

Basically, when Carol got the powers of Star Sapphires, the Zamarons asked her to kill Hal Jordan as he was the one who rejected Carol’s love. But on the other side, we see Hal Jordan who was on a date with Cowgirl. Their date was going smoothly but suddenly Hal’s ex-girlfriend turned Star Sapphire appeared there and a romantic fight starts between them.

She tried her best to kill him and he was also defending well, but suddenly Star Sapphire stone realized that Hal Jordan was on a date, which means he likes someone else now. Just after the realization, the Star Sapphire stone got out of Carol and possessed Cowgirl’s body and now she was the new Star Sapphire, and hence she now started hunting Hal. While the battle goes on between Hal and Cowgirl, Hal asks Carol about the Star Sapphires and Carol describes the brief history of the Sapphires.

As Carol explains Hal, we shift into the past, where we see the Guardians of the Universe who were asking the different creatures from different alien races to sacrifice their emotional spectrum so that they could be able to make logical and proper decisions. But there was a group of creatures who denied this and said that they will experiment different emotions and create their own path, and that group was Zamaron.

They scanned the cosmos for billions of years and finally they found a dead planet of sector 1416. In a cave of that planet they found two skeletons, which were of Adam and Eve. Just near them was a shining Sapphire, which was believed to be the symbol of their love. At that moments, the Zamarons decided that they must spread this feeling of true love to each and every corner of the universe. Since that day the Zamarons started searching for Star Sapphires who could spread the feeling of true love throughout the universe. But with time these Star Sapphires started thinking that they can control love and anyone who didn’t follow their principles of love would have to suffer.

Now, coming back to the present, we see Hal Jordan who was trying hard to escape from Star Sapphire Cowgirl. But she somehow manages to get her hands on Hal and with no choice left, Hal gave some of his powers to Carol so that she could help him. The plans went right and both of them manage to defeat Star Sapphire and turn her back to her normal form.

But the Zamarons who were watching them from above got angry on seeing this and they attacked Hal. They asked Hal to choose one girl between Carol and Cowgirl, and he chose neither of them. Instead of that, he started kissing one of the Zamaron.

Due to this, the Sapphire stone thaught that the woman whom he actually loves is a Zamaron, and hence the stone merged with that Zamaron woman. Ultimately, with no choice left, the Zamarons had to select her as the new Star Sapphire and after that they left the planet.

In the ending scenes of the comics we get to see that the Zamarons somehow managed to take the Sapphire stone from that woman’s head and they place this stone inside a Lantern, which signified that they are now a new breed of Lantern, named Love Lantern.
