For Best Reading Experience, Checkout the Original Post at ‘The Boring SuperHero’.
Hulk is one of those characters of the superhero universe who has been a part of a large number of creator experiments since his first appearance in the comics. Although we have seen only one Hulk of the green shade in the MCU movies, but in the comics, since the arrival of Hulk in the first issue, we have encountered many different versions of Hulk as well as many different colours of Hulk. Today we will not discuss about the different versions of Hulk, rather we will discuss about all the shades in which we have seen Hulk(s) throughout the years in the comic books. Let’s begin our list.
Different Shades of Hulk
Before starting the list, keep in mind that this post is made only to highlight the major colours of Hulk for the general audience and not for any colour enthusiast. For example: we will call it blue if it’s either navy blue or sky blue. Also, we are not discussing the types of Hulks in this post. So keeping this in mind, let’s begin our Hulk rainbow.
Green
This is the most popularly known colour of Hulk, both in the comics as well as in the movies. The original Bruce Banner’s Hulk also belongs to this colour. Apart from that, She-Hulk, Hulk’s future daughter Lyra and the latest Totally Awesome Hulk also belongs to this colour category.
Before moving on to our next shade, let’s recheck the story of the original Hulk as a quick recap for the new audience. So, Bruce Banner was a scientist who was working on a project where they had to fuse the super soldier serum with Gamma rays to form something new. But, during the experiment the reactor overloaded and Bruce got infected by the exposed Gamma rays. After this incident, whenever Bruce’s emotions gets high, he turns into a big green monster whom we call Hulk. Now, let’s move on to the next popular shade of Hulk.
Grey
There is only one popular Hulk from the comics in the shades of Grey, whose name is Joe Fixit. Basically, Joe Fixit is not a different character, but he is also an alter ego of Bruce Banner, just like the green Hulk.
When the first comics of Hulk was published, there the original colour of Hulk was Grey, as created by Sir Stan Lee. But in the later issues of the comics, his appearance changed to Green due to some printer issues. To cover this up, Marvel announced that there are two types of Hulks who reside inside Bruce Banner. One is the green rage monster who is physically the strongest one while having a mind full of rage, and the second one is the grey one, who is not so strong as compared to green Hulk, but the grey Hulk is more on the smarter side and he uses his big brain more than his muscles.
It is often seen in the comics that Joe Fixit and green Hulk always battle inside Bruce Banner’s mind, and the one who wins gets the chance to come out. But since green Hulk is physically stronger than Joe Fixit, hence we often see the green Hulk in action and the grey one appears rarely. It is also seen in some comic storylines that Bruce Banner himself wants Joe Fixit to come out because he believes that Joe Fixit can fix some serious issues easily using his big brain power. Now let’s move towards something hot.
Red
Many of you would definitely recognise the Red Hulk, as he is the second most famous Hulk after the green guy. The real identity of Red Hulk is General Thunderbolt Ross, whose daughter Betty Ross was in a relationship with Bruce Banner. We have also seen the character of General Ross appearing in various movies of MCU. Unlike Hulk, Red Hulk is a properly managed Hulk who knows many different techniques of fighting because General Ross is a military man. When Red Hulk first appeared in the comics, his real identity was kept a secret for a very long period of time, and within this time he had encountered Hulk on many occasions as an enemy. Every time he comes face to face with Hulk, the battle becomes brutal.
Red Hulk has also been an Avenger who was recruited by Captain America when his real identity was unknown. If we talk about his powers, then they are very different from the green Hulk. He possesses come cool superpowers like heat vision and energy absorption, which are not possible for Hulk. Also, the green Hulk increases his strength when his anger increases, whereas the Red Hulk doesn’t possess that. Rather, the Red Hulk’s temperature starts increasing when his anger increases. Now let’s move on to the rarest and most weird Hulk of our List, the Blue Hulk.
Blue
Before understanding the concept of Blue Hulk, you have to first understand another character named Captain Universe. So basically, Captain Universe is a position hold by different characters in different universes of Marvel multiverse, and the job of Captain Universe is to protect the universe from serious cosmic level threats.
Now, in such a distant universe, Hulk is selected for the position of Captain Universe, and hence his colour changes to blue. The powers of the Blue Hulk varies so vastly that rarely anyone in the Marvel universe can match it. Blue Hulk knows flight, telekinesis, inner vision and future prediction. You can say that Blue Hulk is very much overpowered as compared to our Green Hulk. Now let’s move to another weird Hulk of our list.
Orange
This version and colour of Hulk exists on Earth-295. This Hulk also possesses the exact same qualities and powers of the original Hulk, but the only difference is that unlike our Green Hulk, this Hulk doesn’t works by gamma, rather he needs sunlight for his functioning which makes him vulnerable during the night time. Finally, let’s move on to our last colour of this list.
Olive Green
This colour is also seen very often in the comics, but not on the major Hulks. The Hulks who carry the olive green colour are Skaar- son of Hulk, Nerd Hulk and Maestro- the evil Hulk.
Many of you would be knowing about Skaar beforehand, and if you want to know about Maestro, then you can check HERE. But if you want to know about Nerd Hulk then this is the Hulk who exists in the ultimate universe of marvel. Nerd Hulk is basically the clone of Bruce Banner which is created from the dead cells of Bruce Banner by Tony Stark’s brother. Since he is a clone, so he possess the intelligence of Bruce as well as the strength of Hulk.
But if we talk about his efficiency in battles then he is far more weaker than the regular Hulk. Even Captain America had defeated him easily in the comics.
So this was our list of all the colours of Hulk from the comics. Do let us know in the comments if you think we missed any colour. Also, tell us if you liked the post and if there are any suggestions for improvement. Your opinion will be highly appreciated.
