Captain Marvel movie was released back in 2019, and it’ll not be wrong if we consider it as a standalone movie of the MCU. This is because the events of Captain Marvel movie took place in 1995, much before the beginning of the main storyline of MCU. The only two things which connected Captain Marvel movie to the rest of the Marvel Universe are Nick Fury, and the Tesseract cube, which contained the Space infinity stone. Although there isn’t any secrets left to uncover about Fury after the movie, but there are definitely some major questions regarding the Tesseract cube. One such question is ‘How the Kree got Tesseract?’. So let’s find out the answer to this question in this post.

How Tesseract is connected to the MCU Timeline?

See, the answer to this question is actually related to the biggest twist of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we got to witness in the movie, and that is, the Skrulls are the good guys, whereas the Kree are the bad ones.

When Mar-Vell, one of the Kree comrade disguised as a human and working for the SHIELD, got to know about this reality, she decided to change her force and hide the super powerful Lightspeed engine from the Kree. The Kree, being the bad guys, attacked and killed Mar-Vell during her escape from Earth, while Carol got her powers.

By the end of the movie, we saw that that the Tesseract, which was hidden by Mar-Vell on a space station was finally recovered and handed over to Nick Fury.

After this scene, the next scene where we got to see the Tesseract, according to the Marvel timeline, was in the end credit scenes of Thor movie, where we saw Nick Fury handing over the cube to Erik Selvig in the same SHIELD base which Fury and Carol infiltrated in the Captain Marvel movie.

How Mar-Vell got her hands on the Tesseract?

To answer this question, we have to go back in time, during World War II, yes, the time when Captain America was fighting against Hydra.

So, at the end of ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ movie, we got a clear glimpse that Howard Stark, in verge of finding the frozen Steve, finds the Tesseract cube. Howard Stark, at that time was working for the US Military, hence there is a high chance that he would have handed over the cube to the Military.

According to the timeline, the next time we saw the cube is in Avengers Endgame, when Captain and Tony travelled back in time to get the Pym particles. At that time the Tesseract was present at the SHILED base, if we consider that Tony hadn’t picked it up.

Now this connects directly to Captain Marvel movie, where we have seen that Mar-Vell was the head of Project Pegasus, a project under the US Air Force. Hence, by arranging all these events in a chronological order we can predict that after figuring that the Kree are searching for the Tesseract, Mar-Vell would have easily accessed the Tesseract as she was working for the Military as well and then she would have hidden it in the Space Station, where Carol later retrieved it.
