How Strong is Thanos without Infinity Stones ?

We all definitely know about the strength of Thanos when he is using the Infinity Gauntlet. But after witnessing the devastating powers and abilities of Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet in ‘Avengers Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers Endgame’, fans started imagining that Thanos is nothing without the Infinity Gauntlet. But this is not true. In Avengers Endgame, we have seen what Thanos can do without the Infinity Gauntlet when he defeats Iron man, Captain America and Thor by his bodily strength and not by the help of Infinity stones. Not only this, the Thanos of comic books has many more capabilities which were not portrayed in MCU, and these abilities are the proof that Thanos is lot more than just the guy with Infinity stones. Thanos without the Infinity Stones
Before you start reading further, let me inform you that in this article we have classified Thanos’ capabilities on the basis of four different factors which are strength, durability, intelligence and abilities. Also, keep in mind that here we are only talking about the Thanos from the comics and not from the MCU.
Keeping this in mind, let’s hop into our list.
( Strength )
If you want to figure out the level of strength of Thanos, then you can know it from the fact that once in a comic storyline Thanos punched the fully armoured Hulk so hard that his armour broke down and he got thrown away so far from the blow. In some another comics, Thanos has also defeated Hulk and Drax together by a single blow. If you don’t know then let me tell you that unlike MCU, Drax is very powerful in the comics who was created for the only purpose of killing Thanos.
In the Civil War 2 storyline, Thanos killed War Machine by a single punch on the chest. Also, in some standalone storyline, Thanos has defeated a super Skrull, which is definitely not an easy task for many other superheroes and supervillains.
You can get the biggest proof of Thanos’ strength from the fight between Thanos and Galactus. During the fight, Thanos shot Galactus with his cosmic beam so hard that Galactus got thrown far away and was barely able to stand. Although Galactus didn’t die in the battle, but he surely got some deep scratches after that.
( Durability )
The durability of Thanos is also similar to his strength. He is super durable. We can say this from the fact that so many times in comics, despite getting a strong blow from some super powerful entity, Thanos has always stood up for the second round. Once Thor attacked Thanos with all of his strength just like he did to Hela in Thor Ragnarok, but Thanos had no effect of that hit.
Also, once when Thanos and Silver Surfer came face to face, Surfer shot him with his cosmic beam, but still Thanos didn’t move an inch. In comics, Silver Surfer’s cosmic blast is considered so strong that it can break down an entire planet with just one blow.
Once during some other storyline, Thanos got involved in a fight with Blackbolt, the king of Inhumans and also the strongest Inhuman in existence. He is capable of blowing up large mountains just by saying a word from his mouth. But when he came face to face with Thanos, he just kept shouting but it had no Impact on Thanos. All these incidents proves that Thanos is definitely very durable when it comes to take in some hard blows.
( Intelligence )
You may have a lot of superpowers, but without intelligence to figure out how to use it, you are nothing just a circus clown. Now if we talk about Thanos, then in the comics he has a very sharp intelligence which has helped him a lot of times while dealing with the odds. He has also created a lot of weapons and tools by the help of his brain. This also includes the keeper of Infinity stones, the Infinity Gauntlet. Yes, in the comics the Infinity Gauntlet was created by Thanos himself.
He has also defeated the elders of the Marvel universe, the Collector and Grand master, just with his intelligence. Fun fact: the elders are considered as two of the most intelligent entities of the Marvel universe.
( Abilities )
The biggest advantage of being a supervillain is that you can have a lot of abilities and superpowers which you can use without any hesitation or permission from others. Same is the case with Thanos too. Being a creature with super strength, durability and intelligence, Thanos also possesses many different variety of abilities which you may not even heard of. Let’ check out some of his abilities
1) One of the major abilities of Thanos is that he can absorb the cosmic energy, just like Captain Marvel. Not only this, but he can also project back the absorbed cosmic energy on the opponent. This ability is a major helper when Thanos fights with cosmic entities.
2) Almost 90% of the people who know Thanos doesn’t know that Thanos also possess the ability to fly. If you did’t know this earlier then this is not your fault. This is because Thanos uses his flight ability almost never.
3) The reason why Thanos rarely uses his flight ability is because, if anyone could teleport from one place to another within moments, then what is the use of flight. Yes you’re thinking right, Thanos also possesses the ability to teleport. Although the Thanos of MCU uses Space stone for teleportation, but in the comics Thanos doesn’t need any infinity stone for teleportation. This quality is inbuilt in him.
4) Again, one of his lesser known qualities is telepathy, or mind control. He has used it in the comics a lot of times. Once he stopped Drax from attacking him by controlling his mind. Also, he once controlled the mind of Hulk and made him fight the Avengers instead.
Thanos has a strong ability of controlling minds, but it is not as strong as Professor X or Jean Grey. But the fact is that Thanos can also stop any other telepaths from reading his mind.
Despite all these abilities mentioned above, Thanos also possesses many other abilities like super speed, energy manipulation and mystic arts. But these skills are not as strong as the above mentioned abilities and also, he has used these abilities very few times in the comics.
So these were some of the major strength and abilities of Thanos from the comics which prove that Thanos is much more of a supervillain than how he was portrayed in Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame. Instead of all these powers and abilities, Thanos also has Lady Death by her side in the comics, who can easily terminate the life force of anyone on a single command of Thanos. Also, not to forget the children of Thanos who always fight by his side.
